Willowbank Raceway - General News: PRO STREET STARS READY TO FIRE AT WILLOWBANK THIS WEEKEND

PRO STREET STARS READY TO FIRE AT WILLOWBANK THIS WEEKEND

21 March 2013

More than 100 Pro Street machines are set to hit Willowbank Raceway this Saturday (23 March) for the annual Australian Pro Street Association (APSA) Pro Street Shootout event.

From Pro Street stars to ANDRA Pro Series names to the Great Chrome Bumper Show and Shine, there will be plenty to see and do on track at Queensland’s premier drag racing facility from 12.00pm.

Racing for keeps will be a range of Pro Street identities across the Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw Radial, Pro Street Blown, Pro Street Unblown, Pro Street Bike, Modified Street Blown, Modified Street Unblown, X275, True Street Unblown and Dial Your Own (DYO) brackets.

“In the popular Outlaw 10.5 bracket there are a few new comers as well as some ‘old’ drivers returning with new cars,” said APSA event organiser and racer Johnny Wilson.

“First off is Jeremy Callaghan, who will step up from his high ‘six second’ twin turbo Torana into an imported ’69 Camaro, which with the drive line out of the Torana installed has already run a 6.52 second elapsed time (ET) at 222 miles per hour on its very first hit-out.

“Also to watch in this bracket will be Jason Donnelly in his ’63 Corvette; Sam Fenech with his brand new Stroupe Pro Stock car with a blown big block chev; Matt Grubsia in a beautiful 70.5 twin turbo Camaro; John Smith from North Queensland in his ex-Aussie Pro Stocker now complete with a 700 cubic inch nitrous drinking big block chev; and of course Paul Mouhayet in his amazing late model twin turbo Mustang – big things are assured from that monster!

“All the usual suspects will also be on track to support the Outlaw 10.5 bracket. The Pro Street Blown and Unblown classes will feature a range of amazing cars such as Dom Lupino’s twin turbo Mustang; as will the Modified Street Blown and Unblown categories which are set to host the next battle in a growing war between supercharged, nitrous and turbo powered racers.

“The Outlaw Radial class will see the competitors going as fast as they can with no holds barred on radial tyres; while the X275 racers are sure to amaze spectators with what they can do on their small tyres; and the DYO racers will keep everyone hooked to the on-track action.

“Finally you have the mighty True Street class which sees registered street cars fighting it out on the Pro Tree for glory – many of these racers will be shooting to run the first ‘eight second’ ET of the category and Janelle Scott will be one to keep an eye on as she looks to chase her third consecutive championship in 2013.”

Fans can also expect to see a range of well-known names in the exhibition bracket - including Top Doorslammer’s Ben Bray in his Nissan Altima; Factory Extreme’s Scott Porter in his Nissan; and sport compact stars Reece Macgregor, Rod Harvey and Collin Willshire. Also planning to feature in the exhibition bracket is Super Stock racer Jodanna Pullen, who will be looking to debut her ex-Denis Whiting Pro Stock machine.

Willowbank Raceway Managing Director Steve Bettes is looking forward to the mix of raw power and impressive vehicles set to hit the track this Saturday.

“With names like Callaghan, Grubsia, Mouhayet, Lupino, Bray and Scott; a fantastic mix of race vehicles across a 100-strong entry list; and the chance for fans to have their beloved vehicle judged in the Great Chrome Bumper Show and Shine - this weekend is really shaping up to be something fantastic,” said Bettes.

“These cars are something special, bringing together an exciting mix of raw power, variety and many thousands of man hours of work to create impeccable vehicles driven by some truly talented racers.

“With tickets just $25 for adults and discounts for students with ID and children gaining free entry, there is real value for money to be had this weekend!”

On-track racing from the Outlaw 10.5, Outlaw Radial, Pro Street Blown, Pro Street Unblown, Pro Street Bike, Modified Street Blown, Modified Street Unblown, X275, True Street Unblown, DYO and Exhibition brackets will kick off at Willowbank Raceway for the APSA Pro Street Shootout this Saturday 23 March from 12.00pm.
