MARQUE CELEBRATIONS CONTINUE AT WILLOWBANK RACEWAY

21 July 2014

Following the successful first running at Willowbank Raceway of the Falcon GT Owner’s Club All Ford Day at the weekend, the original ‘one-marque’ event for the venue – Mopar Sunday – will see the marque celebrations continue this Sunday (27 July).

Presented by Northstar Fiat Chrysler, Mopar Australia, Redline Performance and Shannons, Mopar Sunday is expected to host around 3000 spectators who will be able to see more than 150 vehicles taking to the track as part of all day drag racing while also taking in the spectacle of a further 150 on display as part of the Surf City Garage ‘Show n Shine’.

Before it does however, round six of the 2014 Street Series will hit the track on Saturday (26 July) with three categories of ‘street vehicle’ based competition across Street Sedan, Street Bike and Powder Puff (ladies only) chasing a coveted Street Series trophy.

Willowbank Raceway CEO Tony Manson said it was an exciting weekend ahead for Queensland’s premier drag racing facility.

“With two events in two days at Willowbank Raceway, July 26 and 27 is certainly shaping up to be a great weekend out at the track,” said Manson.

“From the grassroots drag racing passion of the Street Series to hundreds of impressive Mopar machines on display and on-track, there will be something for everyone here across the weekend.”

Mopar Sunday event organiser Sam Tatton said fans could expect a wide array of things to see and do from what is one of the largest Mopar gatherings in Australia.

“From full ANDRA-spec race cars to street cars, stock rides and even Jeeps, there will be a massive range of ‘Mopar’ on-show this weekend,” said Tatton.

“Joining us on track will be Aussie expat Steve Easton in his California Dream funny car while he is on sabbatical from his home in the US, and he will be just one of number of funny cars hitting the track.

“You will also be able to see headline cars like  Joe La Spina’s General Lee Dodge Charger, the 66 Dodge Coronet of Greg Emberley, and the 1970 Mopar Sunday ‘Cuda of Eric Sherrard; and enjoy a host of off-track activity including a dyno competition, trade alley and merchandise stalls – there won’t be a dull moment!”
